Not all futons are made the same - we would be happy to help you choose the right futon and accessories.

We also carry a wide variety of vinyl bean bag chairs in over 50 colours in a variety of sizes!

Futon furniture is the fastest growing product in the bedroom and sofa bed business. The name futon is Japanses and means nothing more than mattress. The futons began to sell in the 70's, mainly in small stores that promoted ecological and health related products. The mattress itself was the primary product and was spread directly on the floor for sleeping, then rolled or folded for use as a sofa during the day. As the concept grew in poularity and new products were developed to enhance the use of the futon.

At first futon beds evolved with an oriental design. Then frames were developed to convert the futon form a bed to sofa. The frames were usually made from unfinished pine - inexpensive and functional - AND still today the unfinished pine conversion frame is STILL the most popular. This frame is primarily sold for use in college dorms, vacation homes, dens, and children's rooms - from sleep overs to a teen's primary bed!

As college and university students graduated and started new homes, they were receptive to upgrade to more sophisticated futon convertable sofa. Those who were not familiar with the futon began seeing them in friends homes... and the futon sofa became acceptable and popular again.
